If the bargain priced Cloudbook was just a touch too small for your tastes, open wide for Everex’s 15.4-inch VA1500V. Available now at NewEgg, this 5.3-pound rig features a 1.5GHz VIA C7-M processor, WXGA+ (1,440 x 900) resolution panel, half a gig of DDR2 RAM, a 60GB 5400RPM hard drive, DVD combo drive and a lackluster integrated graphics set. Looking for a new way to piss off your landlord or co-op board? How about adding a new room to your unit without a contractor or any silly permits?
That’s the opportunity afforded by the "backpack house," a folding, pref-fab cube meant to attach to the side of any dwelling, adding about 80 square feet of living space. It weighs about 2 tons, so anyone above the ground floor is likely to need a crane to get it into position.

Iomega has a brand new portable hard drive for you to perform all your backups, and it is known as the Iomega REV 120GB Backup Drive. Being the third generation of its kind, it targets small and small and medium-sized businesses, remote work groups and others. It will be launched worldwide this April in two form factors - an external USB 2.0 and internal SATA interface model, with plans for a REV 120GB ATAPI interface model to come sometime in the middle of this year. is planned for mid-year.
According to Tom Kampfer, president and COO, Iomega Corporation, “With a REV install base of 350,000 drives and 2,000,000 disks, tape backup for small business has worn out its welcome. Iomega’s removable REV platform is a proven technology that delivers performance and ruggedness that no tape product can match. Compared to entry-level tape products like LTO-1 and DAT160 format tape drives, the new REV 120GB Backup Drive offers more native capacity, near instantaneous random access to files, faster backups and restores, and ruggedized cartridges - all at a much better drive price. In addition, REV drives offer today’s multimedia enthusiast a limitless storage solution for libraries of content with each 120GB REV disk holding approximately 48,000 photos, 2,000 hours of music or 12 hours of high-definition video.”
Some of the features found in this new REV 120GB Backup Drive includes a maximum data transfer rate of up to 35MB/s, superior third party software support and an estimated 30-year archival life, where in all probability, we won’t be storing data on a much different form factor/media by that time. Each REV 120GB disk comes equipped with an estimated one million rewrite durability, offering a similar kind of performance that tape backup products will never match. Best of all is, you don’t need any sort of head cleaning unlike tape products, and there is no need for expensive retensioning tape replacement regimes.

Now this project by Veloz is certainly one that comes from the heart, as he created it just in time for his wedding as a gift to his wife. The keyboard certainly doesn’t look too comfortable to type on, featuring old school typewriter keys, but this mac mini-powered system is definitely one-of-a-kind. Talk about a labor of love that has no price attached to it! Veloz has certainly set a very high standard for everyone else to follow.

Navigon is hitting CeBIT with some new and fairly expected hotness: the 8110. With a 4.8-inch WQVGA screen, full 3D maps and some sexy brushed metal looks, this one’s going to turn some heads — just promise you’ll try and keep your eyes on the road, will you? There’s a 533MHz processor under the hood, along with a independent graphics accelerator to handle the 3D. 512MB of ROM and 128MB of RAM round out the specs, which won’t exactly make this your second computer, but should handle media from SD cards just fine. TMC Pro is also included for higher quality traffic info. The 8110 should hit Europe at the end of April for €449, no word on a US release yet.

If you just thought to yourself Holy crap Iomega is still around? And they still make the Rev drive? Wasn’t that introduced almost four years ago?, well, you aren’t alone. Apparently the company is introducing a new backwards compatible version of the drive in 120GB capacities, which is sure to be ignored just as roundly as every other non-optical product the company’s made since peoples’ Zip and Jaz drives started going click in the 90s.
