MSI Presents the World’s First Anion Notebook

At CeBIT a couple of weeks ago, Taiwan-based company MSI unveiled the PR620, its new notebook which has a bit of something special to it.

While the MSI PR620 should have been your run-of-the-mill notebook, it’s actually not. What makes it special? Well, find me another notebook which can emit anions, will you? Think of anions as vitamins. They’re negatively charged particles which can make ambient air cleaner. And with the 50,000 anions/cc emitting capacity of the MSI PR620, you’ll be getting air like you’re at the beach or a mountainside. The MSI PR620 can also absorb dust particles and even neutralise cigarette smoke odours. If this baby really works, I might just get one for myself.

Take-Two announces results, confirms BioShock 2

Take-Two announced its financial results for the 1st quarter ending January 31. The company was less than spectacular with net revenue down from US$277.3 million this time last year to $240.4 million. The net loss for the company was $38 million compared to $21 million last year.

There was good news for gamers, however, with the top announcement/confirmation being that BioShock 2 is definitely in development and scheduled for a 4th quarter 2009 release. Illusion Softworks has also been purchased, giving the company exclusive access to series such as Hidden & Dangerous. The newly acquired studio will be renamed to 2KCzech.

Strauss Zelnick, chairman on Take-Two, commented:

We are pleased with Take-Two’s stronger than expected top and bottom line results for the first quarter. Our performance benefited from a diverse range of hit titles in the first quarter, and we are eagerly awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto IV in the second quarter. We believe that our extraordinary creative assets and improving operational efficiency will be sources of significant value for shareholders as the interactive entertainment industry moves further into the current growth cycle.

A lot is riding on GTA IV selling very well for Take-Two, and there aren’t many games where you can guarantee it will just sell loads of copies. Having one game bail you out of a situation is no way for the business to function, though, and the company seems to be taking action to ensure it is more stable in the future.

Big Daddy keyboard is awesome

There are certain quarters who find it difficult to ease themselves into playing a musical instrument, despite having a rigorous and disciplined schedule only to find that the original inner fire has just had its last embers blown out. The Five Key Keyboard, also known as Big Daddy, could dispel such feelings. Created by Michael Robson who described as a “circuit bent keyboard”, this 27″ x 52″ x 41″ device won’t find any place in an orchestra but it is definitely a conversation starter where home decorative items are concerned.

Audeo Neckband Literally Reads and Speaks Your Thoughts

It’s time to turn up the futuristic creepy-meter as some designers actually went and invented a device that can literally speak whatever you are thinking.

Apparently the Audeo Neckband can somehow connect with your head wirelessly around your neck and pick up nerve impulses that form what you are thinking. I’m not certain if it vocalizes conscious or unconscious thoughts, but it is designed for “voiceless conversations” for cell phone users.

I’m sure you’re wondering if you can believe this article, which, even as I write it, sounds like nothing more than science fiction snake-oil. However, if you watch the YouTube video here, you’ll see that it certainly seems legit.

In fact, the Audeo Neckband sounds like it has a lot of bugs to work out. Its ability to converse is weak at best, because the designers say it only has a limited vocabulary of 150 words and phrases. The company is positive that a new version with an unlimited vocabulary will be available by the end of this year.

This is one of those conceptual devices that I don’t really want to see become reality, for obvious reasons. I don’t want someone to collar me, and read my thoughts. The perfection of this technology could change everything, turning planet Earth into a Phillip K. Dick dystopia.

Boombox backpack, for Stormtroopers that like to get down

Do you remember back in the day when people were all walking around with boomboxes up on their shoulders? I actually never saw anyone do that near where I lived, but I guess it was popular in the big cities. Those days have all since passed, however, this Reppo II backpack seems to be trying to bring it back in a new way.

This backpack is just nuts. It is made of a hard outer shell which houses not only a pair of speakers, but an amplifier too. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want that thing buzzing up against my spine for any length of time.

This is currently only a concept idea, though at least one prototype has been created. I have to admit that this does look pretty cool, though it doesn’t seem very practical. I just want to get a picture of a Stormtrooper wearing one of these.

Starfleet Communicator

Star Trek fans can now live out their fantasies with the Starfleet Communicator courtesy of ThinkGeek. This replica unfortunately falls short from my expectations - couldn’t they just have made this into some sort of two-way communications device? Instead, it is littered with blinking lights and sounds from the 1960s, with a “Hailing” feature which allows you to receive a call from the Enterprise a few seconds later after pressing a particular button. $29.99 will net you more than 20 phrases and sound effects from the original Star Trek universe, along with some samples from the TV show itself.

Original Airglider 40 Model Glider Plane

Original Airglider 40 Model Glider Plane

With wings made of extra strong rip-stop fabric and a fiberglass and carbon composite frame, these gliders are robust and more durable than conventional models. With their graceful lines and delicate aerobatic maneuvers they offer a feast for the eyes while they soar through the sky. The Airgliders offer the flyer many alternatives to experiment with the flight experience. You are encouraged to add or subtract ballast and adjust the wings to alter the flight characteristics. The real fun begins as you try different methods of propelling the Airglider. A spectacular and dynamic ?Ground Launch? is achieved by using a rubber band, whereas the ?Side Arm Launch? looks very agile. This new launching technique lets you catapult our largest Airglider in the air like a discus. Our Airgliders perform best in no or light winds.

Ajoka Video Recording Belt

Ajoka has rolled out what looks like a standard belt buckle, but it can actually record 3GP videos in 176 x 144 resolution. Now that’s pathetic, since it isn’t even good enough to put on YouTube, but that’s the standard resolution when it comes to playing videos on cell phones anyway. It will store all video on a 2GB microSD memory card which can hold the equivalent of 65 hours of video. A single battery charge limits its recording time to 3 hours - more than enough for you to capture damning evidence of an office tryst. Best of all is, this belt buckle spy camera cannot be picked up by a wireless camera detector so you can go about with your clandestine recordings without fear.
